Our granite for hearths come from quarries throughout the United States. Granite is commonly used for outdoor paving or flooring, step treads, pool coping, outdoor countertops, fireplace hearths and surrounds, and architecture and water features. Granites are the most durable of stones and can withstand all kinds of weather and fluctuating temperatures which makes it perfect for outdoor environments. Granite is especially good for water features. We can cut the stone for your fireplace into any custom shape per drawings or templates. - Thickness: Granite hearths are typically 1 1/2 or 2 inches thick; can be as thin as 1/2 inch but we recommend 3/4 inch or thicker if possible. Some client projects have incorporated bluestone hearths as thick as 6 inches.
- Maximum length and width: Some granites can be as large as around 10 feet by 5 feet. Shipping of hearths greater than 92 inches in length or greater than 24 inches front to back will require special crating and shipping.
- Edge styles: The most popular edge styles for granite hearths are square or chiseled. Other edges styles are possible such as bull nose, radius top, radius top and bottom, beveled and more.
- Surface textures: The most common surface finishes for granite are honed and thermal also known as flamed finish or honed finish. Other finishes are possible such as sand blasted, brushed, thermal brushed and polished.
