- Thickness: Black slate hearths are typically 1 1/8 inches thick in natural cleft and 1 inch thick when honed; it can be milled as thin as 1/2 inch, please discuss the thickness with Mike when ordering to ensure that the slate will perform best in your circumstances. The minimum recommended thickness for slate over 60 inches long or over 12 inch wide is 5/8" minimum thickness for shipping hearths is 3/4".
- Maximum length and width: Typically slate can be provided in pieces as large as around 7 feet by 4 feet. Shipping of hearths greater than 92 inches in length or greater than 24 inches front to back will require special crating and shipping.
- Edge styles: The most popular edge styles for slate hearths are square, beveled or radius. Other edges styles are possible.
- Surface textures: Slate is currently available only in natural cleft and honed finish textures.
